ELLENWOOD
From Vision to Reality
This 675-square-foot space in a 1902 home was transformed from a series of disconnected, cramped rooms into an open, light-filled haven for a family of five. Originally divided into four areas—including a kitchen, a small eating/TV space, a pantry/bar, and an outdated rear staircase—the layout was reconfigured to create a seamless flow between the entrance, kitchen, dining, and TV lounge. Removing the stairwell and narrow doorways added valuable square footage, while original moldings and cased openings were preserved to honor the home’s historic charm.
The design balances function and personality. A reimagined pantry became a bright mudroom with kids’ lockers and hidden basement access, while an oversized kitchen island anchors the space, perfect for cooking and gathering. A vibrant blue palette with brass accents reflects their love of color, and a custom bar featuring beer taps adds a playful, personal touch.
This renovation captures the best of both worlds—preserving the home’s character while creating a functional, vibrant space for a family that loves to cook, entertain, and live boldly.
